Hello and Happy Wednesday everybody! There’s a lot of books coming out lately that I’ve been interested in!
Canât-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings (and was previously hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine where it was known as Waiting on Wednesday) to spotlight and discuss the books weâre excited about that we have yet to read. Theyâre usually books that have not yet been released.
A charming slow-burn romantasy featuring a duty-bound noblewoman with a chronic illness, a prince who would rather be in a library than on a throne, and a magical ride through a world of cozy enchantment.
Bianca knows her duty comes before her heart. So when the threat of war looms, she agrees to marry the neighboring kingdomâs heir. But not all royal weddings are a fairytale, and Prince Aric, Biancaâs betrothed, is cold, aloof, and seems to hate her on sight.
To make matters worse, on their wedding night, an assassination attempt goes awryâleaving Aric magically transformed into a horse. Bianca does what any bride in this situation would do: she mounts her new husband and rides away to safety.
Sunset returns Aric to human form, but they soon discover the assassination attempt is part of a larger plot against the throne. Worse, Bianca has been framed for Aricâs murder, and sheâs now saddled with a husband who is a horse by day and a frustratingly attractive man by night.
As an unexpected romance begins galloping away with their hearts, Bianca and Aric must rely on each other to unravel the curse and save the throne.

Hey there everybody! Another month, another bunch of new books that are coming out! Yep, itâs The Most Intriguing New Books of May 2025.
This used to be a quarterly post, but Iâve recently decided to do it monthly instead. Also, even though this post is about new releases, itâs primarily focused on fantasy and science fiction, as those are the genres I tend to prefer to read. (Not to say other genres wonât ever appear on these lists â it just isnât super likely; itâs likely to be a very rare occurrence if it happens at all.)
If youâve seen this post by me before, you know the drill; Iâm only interested in these books â thereâs no guarantee that Iâm gonna read all of them. Thereâs not even a guarantee that Iâm gonna read even half of them. We shall see. Anyway, letâs get going! This month there are five books that have caught my eye.
RELEASING: May 6th
Who is Mary Darling? In this smartly subversive Victorian mash-up of the legendary literary novels Peter Pan and Sherlock Holmes, the intrepid mother of the Darling children is on the caseâand always one step ahead of her inept husband and a famous detective.
Mary Darling is a pretty wife whose boring husband is befuddled by her independent ways. But one fateful night, Mary becomes the distraught mother whose three children have gone missing from their beds. After her well-meaning uncle John Watson contacts the greatest detective of his era (but not that great), Mary is Sherlock Holmesâs prime suspect in her childrenâs disappearance.
To save her family, Mary must escape an attempt to have her locked away as mad, and to travel halfway around the world. Along the way, her allies include a Solomon Islander whose village was destroyed by Western civilization; a Malagasy woman on an island that is run by women; Captain Hook and the crew of the Jolly Roger; and of course, Nana, the faithful dog and nursemaid.
This witty and adventurous new novel from Pat Murphy (The City Not Long After) will delight fans of classic Victorian tales, as well as those who are looking for a radical new take on the British Empire.

Hey all, happy Wednesday! It’s been a couple of weeks since I last participated in this post. But I’m here again with another new release that I’m interested in.
This week’s book is:
The Floating World by Axie Oh!! đĄď¸â¨
I really liked The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea when I first read it – when it came out, in early 2023. This novel is by the same author and it also looks interesting, so I’m intrigued. It also looks like it’s the start of a series as well!
From Axie Oh, the New York Times-bestselling author of The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, Final Fantasy meets Shadow and Bone in this romantic fantasy reimagining the Korean legend of Celestial Maidens.
Sunho lives in the Under World, a land of perpetual darkness. An ex-soldier, he can remember little of his life from before two years ago, when he woke up alone with only his name and his sword. Now he does odd-jobs to scrape by, until he comes across the score of a lifetimeâa chest of coins for any mercenary who can hunt down a girl who wields silver light.
Meanwhile, far to the east, Ren is a cheerful and spirited acrobat traveling with her adoptive family and performing at villages. But everything changes during one of their festival performances when the village is attacked by a horrific humanlike demon. In a moment of fear and rage, Ren releases a blast of silver lightâa power she has kept hidden since childhoodâand kills the monster. But her efforts are not in time to prevent her adoptive family from suffering a devastating loss, or to save her beloved uncle from being grievously wounded.
Determined to save him from succumbing to the poisoned wound, Ren sets off over the mountains, where the creature came fromâand from where Ren herself fled ten years ago. Her path sets her on a collision course with Sunho, but he doesn’t realize she’s the girl that heâand a hundred other swords-for-hireâis looking for. As the two grow closer through their travels, they come to realize that their pastsâand destiniesâare far more entwined than either of them could have imagined…
Are you looking forward to the release of The Floating World? What other books are coming out in the next few weeks that youâre looking forward to?
As always, thank you all so much for reading and have a fantastic day/night!
Hi everyone. It’s been, what, three weeks since I’ve participated in this post? Yeah, I’m pretty sure. Anyway, here’s First Line Fridays.
First Line Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers (formerly) hosted by Wandering Words, but I saw it over at One Book More.
What if instead of judging a book by the cover, author or most everything else, we judged it by its content? Its first lines?
If you want to join in, all you gotta do is:
đ Take a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open it to the first page đ Copy the first few lines, but donât give anything else about the book away just yet â you need to hook the reader first đ Finally⌠reveal the book!
Here are the first lines:
Neither here nor there, but not so long ago…
There lived a merchant named Loulie al-Nazari who was as legendary as she was elusive. Garbed in midnight-blue robes, she was known as the Midnight Merchant, a magic-peddler who sold enchanted jinn relics in hidden souks.
Know the book yet? If you don’t, here’s another couple of hints…
Still have no idea? Here are some lovely photos of books to look at while you think about it a bit longer…
Annnd the book is… đĽđĽ The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah!!
A thief and a prince trapped in the crumbling, magical realm of the jinn must figure out how to save one world in order to return to their own in The Ashfire King, the second book in this epic series of myth and magic, perfect for fans of The City of Brass and The Bone Shard Daughter.
Neither here nor there, but long ago⌠After fleeing a patricidal prince, legendary merchant Loulie al-Nazari and banished prince Mazen bin Malik find themselves in the realm of jinn. But instead of sanctuary, they find a world on the cusp of collapse.
The jinn cities, long sheltered beneath the Sandsea by the magic of its kings, are sinking. And amid the turmoil, political alliances are forming, and rebellion in the jinnâs capital city is on the rise. When Loulie saves the life of a dissenterâone of her bodyguardâs old comradesâshe puts herself in the center of a centuries-old war.
Trapped in a world that isnât her own and wielding magic that belongs to a fallen king, Loulie must decide: Will she carry on someone elseâs legacy or carve out her own?
What books have you been reading lately? Whatâs on your TBR that youâre currently the most excited about?
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you have an awesome day/night!

(Edit: Ugh. For some reason this didn’t post yesterday, and I just noticed a minute or so ago. Welp. I already made it, so I’m still gonna make sure it gets posted, because next week will be too late. Oh well. Technology sucks sometimes.)
This weekâs book is:
The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah!! âłđĽ
I know that some people don’t like it, but I really enjoyed The Stardust Thief. I’ve been looking forward to the continuation of the Sandsea Trilogy since I read the first book, so this is probably one of my most anticipated books of the year.

Well this is just the most abysmal thing ever. What am I doing posting a Weekly Wrap-Up on a Wednesday night?! Ugh! This week just started off a little rough, I guess…
Anyway – last week! I’m actually really happy with parts of last week. Not my blogging activity, really, but I read a lot compared to previous weeks. And I’m very happy about that. This year has just started with a really crappy reading slump.
Anyway, Iâll shut up now. Without further ado, letâs get on with the weekly wrap-up!
Tuesday 4/1: The Most Interesting Looking New Books of April 2025
Â
Last Tuesday, I posted a list of the books that Iâm looking forward to this month. Or, at least the ones that I think look the most interesting. It was the Most Interesting Looking New Books of April 2025. As always, itâs basically only fantasy and science fiction, as those are the two genres I primarily read. This time I had four books on my list.
On Friday, I finally posted another book review. This time, I read and reviewed Dark Moon, Shallow Sea by David R. Slayton. It’s a novel that’s been on my TBR for a while that I finally got around to reading. It was pretty decent. I gave it â â â âŻâ.
So yeah. This past week wasn’t the best for the blog, activity-wise, but I did do more reading in a week than I have been doing for the past couple of months. So I’m counting that as a win. I’m hoping to do better with the blog this week however, even though I got a late start. đ¤đ
Regarding this coming week, I’m definitely going to post my reading wrap-up for March 2025. It’s later than I wanted to, but oh well. I’m not totally sure what other posts I’ll do – probably just some of the normal weekly stuff. For reading; I’ll probably read the sequel to The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen, The Runaway King. Even though I don’t think I really liked the first one, I’m gonna give it one more shot, cuz it’s middle grade and I have to up my book count. My reading of books has been terrible so far this year.
Anyway, Iâve talked more than enough here. As always thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day/night!
