Weekly Wrap-Up: 12/2 – 12/8

Here I am. A bit later than usual, but I’m here with another Weekly Wrap-Up. It’s still Monday somewhere. I’m not late! I didn’t miss it!

Anyway, this past week has been a bit of a disaster. In terms of posting, at least. And in reading books. Again. Ugh. I don’t know what it is about Thanksgiving week every year, but it seems like I every year need part of the next week to recover before I can start being productive again. Ugh.

Sunday 12/8: MDZS Review

Yesterday, I finally, finally got my review finished and posted for MDZS (Mo Dao Zu Shi), known in English as Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX). It’s been a bit of a long time coming, but then again, it’s also a very long book. I gave the whole thing ★★★★✯.

Weekly Wrap-Up: 11/18 – 11/24

So with this post, I’ve officially been doing Weekly Wrap-Ups for four weeks now, which is a month of Mondays worth of posting! Yay! I feel like I’m really on track now.

Regarding my reading and posting from last week however… Yeah, it could’ve been better. I really only got through one book, unfortunately, and I posted a little less than I’d have liked as well. Oh well, let’s see what I can do this coming week. Honestly, seeing as this week is gonna be busier ’cause of the holiday, I’ll be happy if I can match my posting from this past week.

Books I Read Last Week

💖🎁 Wrapping It All Up 💖🎁

So yeah, I wasn’t super happy with the amount of posts I did last week. I would’ve liked to have done at least one more. I also kind of wish I’d at the very least started reading another book, but whatever I guess. It is what it is.

Because of Thanksgiving, I’m not sure how much blogging I’ll be able to do. I always get a little busier during weeks with holidays, and this sometimes affects the amount of blog posts I put out. I’m still hoping to do three or four additional posts this week besides this one though. Two that I’m definitely gonna do include: a book review, and my annual Books I’m Thankful For post that I do around Thanksgiving.

Regarding the things I did last week beyond blogging and reading books, there once again wasn’t a lot that I did. My schedule was completely messed up though, my time was managed terribly as a result, and I definitely didn’t get enough sleep as well. (I’m actually pretty sure that this might have affected my reading and posting last week. Whoops.) I’ve already rectified all this though, so hopefully this week will be a lot better.

This week, of course, is the week of Thanksgiving, as well as the start of the Holiday Season, so I’ll naturally be doing a lot with that. I’m also gonna be doing more cleaning.

Weekly Wrap-Up: 11/11 – 11/17

It’s back for a third week in a row! That’s three weeks, so that’s technically a habit right? Or at least a turkey, like three strikes in bowling? Uh, nevermind.

I’m satisfied with my reading and my blog posting last week. Not only did I participate in a couple of my usual posts, but I put out two book reviews. Woohoo! Also, I read and finished three books! Fingers crossed I get the same kind of productivity this, or at least an amount that I’m personally happy with. 🤞🍀

Tuesday 11/12: One Piece Review (Part #1)

Last Tuesday, I finally posted my first review for One Piece. This one basically only focused on the pre-time skip arcs, but I’m planning on doing two more reviews of the long running series by the end of it. (One focusing on the New World and Wano, and the other focusing on One Piece’s Final Saga when the manga is finally complete.)

Though I had somewhat different thoughts regarding each of the arcs from the pre-time skip, I rated the entirety of it ★★★★✯.

So yeah, I’m really happy with both the posts I was able to do, as well as the amount of reading that I had gotten done. Also, I got out two book reviews, which I’m really satisfied with. I don’t know how common of an occurrence that’s gonna be, however, even though it might happen again this week, lol. We’ll see what happens together.

Regarding my upcoming posts for this week… I’m definitely planning on participating in a certain monthly post regarding the color of book covers. I’m also going to do at least one book review this week (I finished MDZS within the first half of last week, but wanted to review Skyshade first, so I still gotta review it). I’m hoping to read at least one or two books this week, as well. And I’ll probably participate in at least one weekly post, too.

Concerning stuff going on in life outside of books and blogs; there wasn’t too much of one, honestly. We mostly relaxed this past weekend, though I did clean a lot of the house last week. But other than that, nothing notable happened.

Monthly Wrap-Up: October Reading 2024

Ugh. I’m later in the month again. I hate it when I post my monthly wrap-ups later than like, the 5th of the month. ‘Cause then it just feels super late to me. But yeah, I’m finally posting my October reading for 2024.

I’m very pleased with the amount of reading I got done last month. It’s been some time since I’ve read nine books in a month, and it’s something that I wish I would do more often. And I enjoyed almost all of the books I read in October, which was a huge bonus.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into my StoryGraph statistics from last month!

October Reading 2024

I read 9 books and 3,995 pages

😐 MOODS: I had more reading Moods in October that I’ve had in a long while – possibly the most ever. Adventurous was of course the biggest chunk of the pie chart. The second biggest slice is Emotional, then Lighthearted and Hopeful. The other four Moods were Reflective, Mysterious, Inspiring and Funny.

👢 PACE: My books from last month were mostly medium paced, but around a third of them were fast or slow paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: Everything I read was between 152 and 640 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction in October. As is my usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were more Genres in October than there have been in months. Fantasy was the Genre I read there most of, which is always the case. Though, interestingly it’s actually tied with Young Adult this time. The other five genres were Manga, Graphic Novel, Romance, LGBT+ and Romance. (BTW, in case you were wondering, the genre vs. demographic thing still bugs me.)

📄 FORMAT: This particular pie graph is once again wrong. (As it always is.) About half of the books I read were physical copies, but some novels were digital.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 4.11. The ratings I gave were between 2.5 stars and 5.0 stars, so yeah.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I did most of my reading during the last third of October. My biggest reading spike of the month was the 23rd, though my reading was decently high on the 14th, 29th and 31st. I also read books on the 3rd and 4th, and between the 21st and the 27th.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, I liked how much stuff I ended up reading in October. Did it feel a bit like cheating because the majority of what I read were graphic novels or manga? Yes, but I’m actually okay with that this time. Especially because the One Piece super volumes are so thick. Plus, I enjoyed most – almost all – of the novels I read last month, which is always fantastic.

I’m not sure how my reading is going to be for November. This is usually one of my best months of the year for it, but I’ve been so indecisive about which book I’m gonna read next that I haven’t started reading a new novel yet. Which, ugh, I hate it when that happens. Hopefully I’ll finally make a decision and get something started tomorrow.

These are the posts you wish everyone would read! I wasn’t feeling this prompt a few weeks ago, when it was originally for, but I’m feeling it now.

I could only think of eight posts this time, unfortunately. Which kind of sucks, ’cause this is the first time I’ve had trouble thinking of ten things for this list. (This might be why I originally passed on this prompt a few weeks ago, haha.)

So anyway, let’s get started!

#1: Some Scary Stories for Spooky Season (Book Recs for October 2022)

One of my first ever posts. I really like the books I ended up picking for this one, though I think that when I did this post again in 2023, it was better written.

#2: Monthly Reading Wrap-Ups

I really like doing monthly reading wrap-ups. From the beginning on this blog, I’ve discussed and analyzed my StoryGraph statistics every month on the Blog That Nobody Knows, and I’ve enjoyed it. I’m proud of how most of these turned out.

#3: The First “Pretty Good” Book Review I Wrote

My review for Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garner is where I felt like I was starting to hit my stride to some degree, regarding how I wrote my book reviews. The way I write and structure my reviews is very different than it was almost two years ago now, and is ever evolving, but this was the first book review I wrote wherein I felt genuine satisfaction with the way it turned out.

#4: Reading Retrospective Reviews, Particularly the ACOTAR One

I haven’t done a retrospective review in a while, but I’ve enjoyed making them nonetheless. I feel like my personality shines with some of these posts, because I love to talk about books I’ve read in the past, not just ones I’ve read more recently during my time with this blog. And going over a book again to see how it holds up with my present eyes is something I sometimes like to do.

#5: My Quarterly Anticipated New Release Lists

I like to do these lists because it encouraged me to look into new books coming out. But I’m also too lazy to do this every month, so instead I do it seasonally. And thus, I get kind of unique lists sometimes. Plus, these are all pretty much strictly science fiction and fantasy only, ’cause that’s what I like to read.

#6: Books I’ve Read With Legend of Zelda Vibes

This is a post I hold dear to my heart. The Legend of Zelda series is something that is very special to me, and is something that has impacted so many parts of my life. I did this post in celebration of the latest series installment – Tears of the Kingdom – releasing in May 2023. It’s one of my favorite posts that I’ve ever done.

#7: The First Book Tag I Did

I haven’t done a lot of them, but I’ve enjoyed every Book Tag I’ve taken part in. In each of the ones I’ve done, I put a lot of effort into the visuals and images (including doing and redoing the thumbnail/featured image multiple times). And I’m very proud of how it all turned out. I feel like the Taylor Swift book tags in particular give insight into me, because they show the kind of music I enjoy (to some degree), and they showcase a lot of the different novels that I’ve read or want to read in the future.

#8: Bewitching Book Covers / Tasteful Tuesdays / Majestic Mondays

This post was the first series post that I ever created. And, even though I haven’t been very consistent with it lately, I like to talk about, admire and analyze book cover art which is why I originally decided to start doing it. I still enjoy doing it and know I’ll eventually come back to it. Hopefully soon and more consistently. It’s gone through a few title changes since I first started it, which might not be a good thing, lol.

Monthly Wrap-Up: August Reading 2024

So I dropped the ball a little bit last month, regarding my reading in August 2024. I read a little bit less than I did in July.

But I’m hoping to at least match my reading (of books, specifically) from last month, this month. Especially since September has a couple books coming out that I’m looking forward to in particular.

Well anyway, without further ado, let’s get into my StoryGraph statistics from last month.

August Reading 2024

I read 4 books and 1,430 pages

😐 MOODS: The Moods for August definitely varied more than the last couple of months. Adventurous was of course the biggest slice of pie on this particular pie chart, because it always is. But the secondary most Mood was Mysterious, which isn’t always the case. The other Moods included were Reflective, Lighthearted, Funny, Emotional and Challenging.

👢 PACE: My books from last month were split between fast and medium paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: Everything I read was between 160 and 477 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction in August. As is my usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were about as many Genres in August as there were in July. The Genre king for last month was once again Fantasy as is basically always the case – I don’t think I’ve ever had a month where it wasn’t. The other five genres were Young Adult, Shirt Stories, Science Fiction, Manga and Literary. (Once again – and I’ll probably keep saying this – it really bothers me that StoryGraph lumps in reading demographics with genres though – they’re not the same thing!!)

📄 FORMAT: This particular pie graph is once again wrong. (As usual.) Nearly all the books I read were digital – only one was a hard copy.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 3.94. The ratings I gave were between 2.0 stars and 5.0 stars, so yeah.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I read a lot during the end of the first week and then first half of the second week of August. It was my biggest reading spike of the month, as well. Then I dropped off for a bit. I then read between the 20th and the 24th, paused again, and then read from the 26th all the way to the end of the month on the 31st.

So yeah, once again – even though I read several books in August – it wasn’t as many as I might’ve liked. I mostly enjoyed the novels I did read and did end up finishing, however, so I count that as a huge win for me.

I think I have a better chance of reading more books in September than I did this past month. For one thing, my husband and I are gonna start up with another arc of One Piece again (which means at least two super volumes). But also, there’s a couple of books coming out this month that I’ve been anticipating all year. Not to mention what I’m currently reading and all that.

Another thing in my favor, is that I tend to really get into novels in the fall, for whatever reason. It might be kinda weird, and I don’t know why it happens, but I pretty consistently seem to do the majority of my novel reading in autumn. Maybe it’s the atmosphere? The vibes? I just don’t know.

Monthly Wrap-Up: July Reading 2024

So even though I didn’t read quite as many books as I’d hoped, I was at least somewhat happy with my reading for July 2024. Like, I read six books – that’s not too bad.

I also still have a bit of a solid TBR going on (that I still haven’t touched, lol), and there’s some books coming out in the next month or so that I’m into, so hopefully I’ll be reading way more in August.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into my StoryGraph statistics from last month.

July Reading 2024

I read 6 books and 3,153 pages

😐 MOODS: There were about the same amount of Moods as in June. Adventurous was of course number one, as it always is. The other three Moods were Lighthearted, Funny and Emotional, and they were actually pretty equal on the chart, except for Emotional.

👢 PACE: My books from last month were fast, medium or slow paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: Everything I read was between 200 and 700 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction this month. As is usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were about as many Genres in July as in June. The Genre king for last month was once again Fantasy as is pretty much always the case – I don’t think I’ve ever had a month where it wasn’t. The other five genres were Manga, Romance, Graphic Novel, LGBT+ and Young Adult. (It bothers me that StoryGraph lumps in reading demographics with genres though – they’re not the same thing!! And these last five are definitely reading demographics.)

📄 FORMAT: This particular pie graph is once again wrong. (As usual.) About a third of the books I read were ebooks, while the rest were physical copies.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 4.17. The ratings I gave were between 3.0 stars and 5.0 stars, so that pretty much tracks.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I read a ton during the second week of July, but that’s what happens we hen you read an entire arc of One Piece. It was my biggest reading spike of the month, as well. I also read some between the 17th and the 28th.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, even though I read six books last month, it still wasn’t quite as many as I’d have liked. I really enjoyed the books that I did end up reading, however, which was pretty nice. Hopefully I’ll read more in August, though.

I did end up having a bit of a minor slump during July, and I think it’s ’cause my husband was ready to continue buddy reading One Piece, and I wanted to read something else first. We ended up doing the buddy read of the next OP arc, and by the end of it I was kind of no longer into reading what was originally next on my TBR. Like, don’t get me wrong – I really enjoyed the Water Seven arc, it just all kinda messed up my reading moods for July. A little.

Monthly Wrap-Up: May Reading 2024

It’s June now, so it’s time to talk about what I read in May! This is super late compared to normal – and I wanted to post this way earlier – but I went on vacation last week, so my posting and my schedule in general both kind of got messed up. Sorry, I’ve been kind of MIA these last couple weeks.

Anyway.

My reading is the best it’s been so far this year! May was fantastic regarding books and stuff. I read 8 books – which is 2 more novels than I read in April! Woohoo! I’m really happy with my reading stats from The StoryGraph from May.

But yeah, without further ado, let’s get going with the May 2024 Reading Wrap-Up!

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction this month.

🎭 GENRES: There were quite a few Genres in May, though not as many as in April. Fantasy was once again the biggest bar, as usual, though it is closely followed by Middle Grade – probably because I read the entirety of the Magisterium series last month. The three other Genres on the graph are LGBT+, Science Fiction, and Historical.

📄 FORMAT: This particular pie graph is once again wrong. All of the books that I read were ebooks.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 3.94. The ratings I gave were between 2.5 stars and 5.0 stars, with three of the ratings being 4.0 stars.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I didn’t read as much as I’d have liked during the first week or so of May, but I really started reading after that. My highest reading peak was during the 21st thru the 23rd, but I had little reading spikes around during other parts of the month.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, so again for being late with this wrap-up and the gap in the posting. I’ve just had a few things going on the last couple weeks; particularly my vacation last week. I’m not sure how much reading of books I’m gonna get done for June, but I didn’t read any during my vacation, so we’ll see. Hopefully it’s at least like 5 or 6 books by the end of the month.

There are a couple of books that came out this month (June 2024) that I was interested in. I’ve already read one of them, and you’ll see what I thought of it soon. But I’m hoping to continue with One Piece again. We got busy at the end of May, so plans for continuing it last month kinda fell by the wayside. Other than that, I’m not fully sure what I’m planning on reading during the rest of this month.

Monthly Wrap-Up: April Reading 2024

It’s once again another month, which means it’s time for another wrap-up! This is a few days later than I had wanted – I’d originally wanted to get this out last weekend. Buuut… I was out of town, you know? Anyway, this monthly wrap-up regarding my reading for April 2024 features my reading stats from The StoryGraph, as per usual.

My reading has been much better than the previous few months – even March. I read 6 books! Which is such a big improvement compared to one or two or none at all. So yeah, I’m kind of satisfied with my reading last month.

Anyway, let’s get on with the reading wrap-up!

April Reading 2024

I read 6 books and 2,658 pages

😐 MOODS: The reading Moods were varied this past month. Adventurous was of course the biggest chunk of the pie in April, but Lighthearted, Mysterious and Dark were also pretty big slices. Tense and Funny were the smallest parts though.

👢 PACE: My books from last month were all three kinds of paces: fast, medium and slow.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: I read a lot of books with different page numbers. But everything I read was between 100 and 650 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction this month.

🎭 GENRES: So many Genres in April. Of course, Fantasy was the biggest one – it was the only Genre that was applied to every book I read. Manga surprised me at being the second biggest one, though I probably shouldn’t have been. The third biggest Genre was Young Adult, and then the rest of them were all applicable to one book each and were therefore the smallest lines.

📄 FORMAT: This little StoryGraph pie chart is almost correct for April. I only read one ebook though.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 3.42. The ratings I gave were between 2.25 stars and 4.25 stars, with two of the ratings being 4.0 stars.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I didn’t read as much as I’d have liked during the first week or so of April, but I really started reading after that. My highest reading peak was during the 9th thru the 16th, but I had little reading spikes after that for the rest of the month.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, I improved my reading stats for April! Just like I had intended to do. I’m hoping I read even more this month, and the months that are coming up the rest of 2024 too.

May has a couple of books releasing that I’m interested in, but I still have a couple new releases from April that I haven’t read yet that I still might check out as well. My spouse and I are still making our way through One Piece, and are planning on reading the next arc this month too. I’m so glad we started reading it again – it’s a fun and easy read and it got me out of my slump! Though… I’ve had a bit of a mini-slump happening for the past few days, but I’m chalking that up to reading two 2.5 star novels in a row plus the going out of town thing last weekend.
