Monthly Wrap-Up: March Reading 2026

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far! It’s time for my monthly reading wrap-up for March 2026!

I read a pretty good amount last month. Seven books! Seven! I’m so happy about that; I haven’t read that many books in one month in ages. I also blogged a fair amount as well, so I’m also satisfied with that.

Anyway, let’s just start talking about my StoryGraph statistics from last month!

March Reading 2026

I’m liking what I’ve been doing, so I’m going to continue starting off with my general statistics here first before getting into the more specific stuff. Everything was so much higher last month and I’m really happy about it.

I read 📚 7 books and 📑 3,763 pages in March, and my average star rating was ⭐ 4.04 stars. Also, the average length of the books I read was 📈 537 pages and my average time to finish a novel 🗓️ was 2 days.

😐 MOODS: I had more Moods than usual last month. For this past month, my Moods were AdventurousFunnyTense, Lighthearted, Reflective, Mysterious, Informative, Emotional, and Dark.

👢 PACE: The pacing of of the books that I read in March was 57% slow, 29% medium, and 14% fast.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: Concerning my average Page Number per book, 71% of them were over 500 pages, and 29% of them between 300 and 499 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: Regarding the ratio here, the books I read were both fiction. As is my usual.

🎭 GENRES: The Genres I read in March were Manga, Fantasy, Young Adult, LGBT+, Horror, and Comics.

📄 FORMAT: The Format was 86% print and 14% digital. So the majority of them were physical copies with one of them being an ebook.

📊 STAR RATINGS: I’ve already mentioned this above, but this is what it looks like on the graph. One novel I read I gave 3.75 stars (Brighter Than Nine), four novels I gave 4 stars (Don’t Let the Forest In and three omnibuses of One Piece), and two books I gave 4.25 stars (two omnibuses of One Piece).

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I read less during the first half of the month compared to the second half. The highest peak of my reading was on the 28 with a bunch of One Piece, though the days surrounding it were also pretty high (also do to One Piece). Though not very high, my earliest reading spike in the month was the 4th.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, those were all of my reading stats from last month. I’m pretty happy with how everything turned out. I hope that April is just as wonderful.

For this month, I’ve already read A Widow’s Charm by Caitlyn Paxson, and I’m planning on getting a review for it out soon. In regards to books that I want to read next, I’m planning on Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, and if I like it, the sequel to it as well. I’d also like to read The Subtle Art of Folding Space by John Chu, and maybe No Gods No Kings by Demetria Paxton. I also want to get back into the Dresden Files still, and am hoping to do so in the next few weeks.

Anyway, as always, thank you for joining me in checking out my StoryGraph stats for my March reading in 2026. Thank you also for reading, and I hope you have a great day/night!

WWW Wednesday: 4/1

Happy Wednesday again! Cutting it very close with this one!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that used to be hosted at A Daily Rhythm, but has been taken over by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Now, without further ado, let’s get into the 3 Ws!

The 3 Ws of WWW Wednesday:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What I’m Currently Reading

A Widow’s Charm by Caitlyn Paxson

CURRENT STATUS: 26%

CURRENT FEELS: 🤔 (unsure)

✯✯ I’m really not sure how I feel about this one yet. It started off much hornier than I expected, which put me off a little, and I wasn’t immediately into either of the protagonists, for various reasons. For now, I’m still giving it a chance, as I’m still interested in seeing where this goes at the moment. ✯✯

What I Recently Finished Reading

One Piece (Volumes 79, 80, & 81) by Eiichiro Oda

★★ I really enjoyed the Dressrosa arc, even if it was a little slower. Far more than the Fishman Island arc in any case. I’m teetering around four stars for the last few volumes I read, though I might end up going up a little with the rating. But yeah, great arc. Looking forward to the Whole Cake Island arc later this year. ★★

What I’m Reading Next

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

☆☆ I’m still super eager to read this, and I really hope I enjoy it. I’m nervous about hyping it up too much, especially since A Widow’s Charm is not hitting so far for me (hopefully I can really get into it soon, though). But yeah, looking to start Dungeon Crawler Carl later this week. ☆☆

What books has everyone been reading lately? What have you thought of them? What are you thinking of reading next?

Anyway, thank you to everyone for reading, and I hope that you have a great day/night!

Monthly Wrap-Up: September Reading 2025

It’s a bit later than I wanted to post this, but it’s also way earlier than last month, so I’ll take it. But yeah, here comes my reading wrap-up for September 2025!

My reading for this part month was basically the same as it was in August. It was also kind of bad. But my reading in general for most of this year has sucked, so yeah.

Anyway, let’s just start talking about my StoryGraph statistics from last month!

September Reading 2025

I read 1 book and 608 pages

😐 MOODS: I had three Moods in September, which is the same as the month before. The Moods from this past month were also the same as the month before: AdventurousLighthearted and Funny.

👢 PACE: The book I read last month was slow-paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: The graphic novel I read last month was 608 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction. As usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were two Genres on the graph this month. They were Fantasy and Manga.

📄 FORMAT: This pie chart was once again correct. Six straight months. That’s half a year. Yay.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 4.0, which makes sense as I only read one book and that was the rating I gave it.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: My reading once again sucked in September. I only read during the middle of the night, and it’s also where much prai of the month is.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, last month was kind of just the latest month this year so far wherein my reading was not great. I’d say I hope October is better, but it’s already started and it actually is better because I’ve already read two books!

This month I’ve already read A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro and What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher. Next, I’m planning on finally reading The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah. Then, I’ll probably get back into the Dresden Files, and after that, One Piece.

Anyway, as always, thank you for joining me in checking out my StoryGraph stats for my September reading in 2025. Thank you also for reading, and I hope you have a great day/night!

Weekly Wrap-Up: 9/15 – 9/21

So it’s a little bit late, but I’m here with my Weekly Wrap-Up for last week!

Posting was okay last week, but it could’ve been better. Stuff happened during the second half of the week though, and I ended up getting a little busy. It’s also why I didn’t end up being able to read more than I did.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get on with the Weekly Wrap-Up!

Wednesday 9/17: Can’t-Wait Wednesday

Last Wednesday, I did another Can’t-Wait Wednesday. Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme currently hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings. It focuses on books you’re looking forward to reading, usually new releases.

Saturday 9/20: August Reading 2025

On Saturday, I posted my Monthly Reading Wrap-Up for August 2025. And it was posted at a reasonable time of the month this time! For those who don’t know, monthly wrap-ups are when I go over the books I read over the past month, as well as my stats over on The StoryGraph.

Books I Read Last Week

Wrapping It All Up

So yeah, last week was okay, but it could’ve been better. I still read and posted though, and with how things were going before, I’ll take that as a win. I hope this coming week will be better, though.

I’ve got A Study in Charlotte and The Ashfire King on my more immediate TBR, so here’s hoping I’ll get through those this week. After that, I think there’s a good chance I might get back into reading the Dresden Files. I read the first seven books a few years ago – like six months or so before I started posting on this blog, actually – but then I took a break. Because even though I loved the series, I read those seven books all within a month, and I wanted to read other stuff for a bit. So I’ve been meaning to get back to them for a while. Maybe I’ll make it an October thing, since it starts next week anyway. I don’t know.

Not too much went on last week, with life outside the blog. It was cleaning week last week, and my spouse and I are still trying to be healthier, but that’s mostly it.

Anyway, as always thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day/night! As well as a much better week than I’ve been having!

See ya ~Mar

Monthly Wrap-Up: August Reading 2025

It’s later than I wanted to, but I’m finally posting my reading wrap-up from last month. Things were unfortunately a bit busy during the beginning of this month, so everything has been pushed back a little bit. Anyway, here it is: my reading wrap-up for August 2025!

So August’s reading was kind of terrible, similar to several months of this year preceding it. I don’t think it was the worst of the year, but it was definitely bad.

Anyway, let’s just start talking about my StoryGraph statistics from last month!

August Reading 2025

I read 1 book and 810 pages

😐 MOODS: I had three Moods in August, which is the same as the month before. The Moods from this past month were also the same as the month before: AdventurousLighthearted and Funny.

👢 PACE: The book I read last month was medium-paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: The graphic novel I read last month was 656 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction. As usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were two Genres on the graph this month. They were Fantasy and Manga.

📄 FORMAT: This pie chart was once again correct. Five months in a row. Yay.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 4.0, which makes sense as I only read one book and that was the rating I gave it.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: My reading during August, as I’ve mentioned before, was not great. I read a little bit earlier in the month on the 9th and the 10th, but I really got my reading done closer to the end of the month, on the 21st, 22nd she 23rd.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, my reading once again sucked last month. Ugh, this year annoys me so much, in regards to reading novels and stuff. It’s also the worst slump I’ve ever had, by far, as it’s lasted several months. I just want it to end and to get back into books again. I guess hoping that September turns out better is all I can really hope for. Oh well.

For this current month, I’m definitely gonna finish the One Piece arc that I started last month. Primarily because it’s short – it’s only two volumes and I’ve already read one of them. I’m also hoping to read at least a couple of other books as well. We’ll see what happens.

Anyway, as always, thank you for joining me in checking out my StoryGraph stats for my August reading in 2025. Thank you also for reading, and I hope you have a great day/night!

Get Ready to Set Sail!

My Review

This review has been a long time coming. I’ve been buddy reading One Piece with my spouse for the past year – it’s so long that we take breaks every month or so (also so I can read stuff other than One Piece).

It’s also so long that I decided from the get go that I’d split it into three reviews. The first review: the Pre-Time Skip Arcs (aka: this one). The second review: the New World to Wano. And the third review: the Final Saga (this one I wouldn’t do until after One Piece is complete, which could be a couple more years).

So yeah, my spouse and I started reading it about a year ago. Which, wow, that’s a while. There’s a lot of ground to cover here (because of how freaking long this manga is), but I have surprisingly little to say. Or maybe I have too much to say about it and it’s too much, so my brain decided to automatically process the extraneous stuff out. I don’t really know. Either way, this might be a shorter review than you’d expect for such a long and long-running series as this.

The Characters

The characters are one of the things that keeps me coming back. I love the Straw Hats, they’re such a fun, eclectic crew with all kinds of quirks.

👒 Luffy: Ah, the crazy rubber man. He’s so ridiculous, funny and dumb. I know he’s a cookie-cutter shounen protagonist, but I love him. He’s so extra.

🗡️ Zoro: Zoro and Luffy are two peas in a pod. They’re both dumb and ridiculous and extra, but different kinds of dumb and ridiculous and extra. He’s the first person to join the crew, and he’s Luffy’s right hand man. I love the running gag about his complete lack of sense of direction.

🍊 Nami: The second one to join the Straw Hats, and the navigator. For so long, Nami held the single brain cell (until Robin). I love her attitude and how she keeps the group on track.

🏹 Usopp: Luffy’s liar – I mean sharpshooter. His arc in Water Seven changed how I saw him as a character – though his exaggerated cowardice alternatively irritates and amuses me.

🍲 Sanji: The ship’s cook. I like Sanji for the most part, but his pervy tendencies annoyed me sometimes. The anime pervert trope needs to go away for a bit, I’m kinda getting tired of it.

🦌 Chopper: The reindeer doctor. He’s so CUTE. 😍

📚 Robin: The sixth member to join the Straw Hats and an archeologist. I really enjoyed her – she’s got a great character arc and I like her dark humor.

🛠️ Franky: The Straw Hats’ shipwright. Also, a blue haired cyborg engineer powered by cola (yes, really). I didn’t expect to like him as much as I did, but I think he’s in my tip five Straw Hats.

💀 Brook: A skeleton and musician. He was the Straw Hat I was most excited to meet, partially because it took a bit to get to him (and also because he’s a singing skeleton who makes bad puns). He didn’t disappoint.

I loved a lot of the supporting characters that appeared in each arc as well, but there’s waayyy yo many to even mention here. My favorite characters that weren’t Straw Hats, though, were: Vivi, Buggy, Dr. Kureha, Chouchou the dog, Iceberg, Kokoro, and Ace.

The Plot

There’s. So. Much. Plot. Like, so much. This story just keeps going on and on. And I love it, even if it is incredibly long. Every arc in One Piece has something to love, even if I enjoy some a little bit more than others.

The setting itself is also really cool. I love the idea of a world that’s basically a giant ocean. It reminds me a lot of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. (And yes, I know One Piece predates this game by about five years and that Oda was working on it for years before it started being serialized. I just played this Zelda game first, many years before I started reading OP, in fact.) I love all the unique islands and biomes and how like sixteen different seasons technically exist. It’s also really interesting how even this early on, there’s some foreshadowing and implications that not everything about the way the world is currently is as it seems.

Impressively, nearly all the arcs have some relevancy to most of the major plot points that have come up as well. Even the ones that don’t really seem to affect it as much still have stuff to contribute to the world building. I’m also impressed with the consistency, despite the length and how long this series has been running.

But now for a brief review of all the arcs I’ve read so far:

🏴‍☠️ East Blue: Though some people have said that this is the weakest and one of the worst arcs compared to the rest of the story, the East Blue Arc is actually one of my favorites. I think it’s even in the Top Three. I found it to be a fast-paced, engaging and solid start. Most of the Straw Hats are introduced in this arc, and I loved reading them join the crew, and all the hijinks that occurred along the way.

🧭 Baroque Works: My favorite arc in the series so far. There’s just something about it that I really love. I gave nearly every part of it five stars. The crew finally venture out to the Grand Line here, and I loved seeing the crazy adventures turn up to eleven.

☁️ Skypiea: As much as I ended up loving the later parts of this arc, Skypiea definitely wasn’t my favorite. Let me be clear, I enjoyed this arc as I did all of the rest of One Piece. But… it’s probably my least favorite. It just doesn’t feel as connected to the rest of the story, and I think that’s part of what bothered me. (That, and the build up at the beginning felt a bit slow.) Here, the crew sail to an island in the sky.

🌊 Water Seven: I really liked this arc. Top Three (or Four) definitely. We get to learn a lot about some of the crew, and stuff really starts to build up for the stuff that leads to the time skip. There’s also a lot of world building that goes on here. In this arc, the Straw Hats seek a shipwright to help repair their shop, the Going Merry.

👻 Thriller Bark: Probably my second least favorite arc, actually. I love it to bits still, like Skypiea, but it isn’t quite up to par with the rest of the story for me. I really enjoyed the idea of a Halloween themed island (or ship I guess, technically), but parts of it just weren’t as interesting as other arcs. The crew are waylaid and sucked into the Florian Triangle in this arc.

🏝️ Sabaody / 🔐 Impel Down / 🔥 Marineford: I know, I know, these are technically three separate arcs. But they’re all so short and the events that occur throughout all three are highly related and really build off each other before culminating in the event that causes the time skip. So I’m grouping them together here. Anyway, this was another Top Three Arc for me; everything is all just so crazy and intense and it’s one event right after another. During these arcs the Straw Hats are separated and Luffy sets off to rescue someone close to him.

The Art

It would be remiss of me to review a manga without mentioning the art. Though I was initially put off by the art style – this was several years ago now when during my one and only attempt to watch the One Piece anime – I ended up liking it. It’s pretty goofy and unique.

The only thing kind of negative I gotta say about it is that there aren’t really unique female character designs. A lot of the women generally look the same. But other than that, I don’t really have anything unfavorable to say regarding the artwork.

Final Thoughts

I really, really enjoyed what I’ve read of One Piece so far, and am definitely looking forward to what is to come. I can’t wait to see what happens next! And the characters and story and world building and art are all just so good. I really do love almost everything about this magnum opus of Oda’s.

Unfortunately, as much as I adore this manga, I don’t really feel comfortable recommending it. Because of how insanely long it is. One Piece is definitely a commitment, and despite what OP manga superfans claim about this being the greatest manga ever (which I don’t think, just to be clear), probably not for everyone. If you are interested, however, this series is very accessible – there are a lot of different options to read and/or watch it. As of now, I rate what I’ve read as a whole:

But yeah, I’m possibly going to continue with this perhaps at the end of this month, but if not then hopefully next month in December. I wanna read what happens next, but I also want to read other books, too. So I have to manage my OP reading!

Anyway, as always, thank you so much to everyone for reading, and I hope you have a fantastic day/night!

See ya ~Mar

Monthly Wrap-Up: July Reading 2024

So even though I didn’t read quite as many books as I’d hoped, I was at least somewhat happy with my reading for July 2024. Like, I read six books – that’s not too bad.

I also still have a bit of a solid TBR going on (that I still haven’t touched, lol), and there’s some books coming out in the next month or so that I’m into, so hopefully I’ll be reading way more in August.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into my StoryGraph statistics from last month.

July Reading 2024

😐 MOODS: There were about the same amount of Moods as in June. Adventurous was of course number one, as it always is. The other three Moods were LightheartedFunny and Emotional, and they were actually pretty equal on the chart, except for Emotional.

👢 PACE: My books from last month were fast, medium or slow paced.

🔢 PAGE NUMBER: Everything I read was between 200 and 700 pages.

📖 FICTION/NONFICTION: It was once again all fiction this month. As is usual.

🎭 GENRES: There were about as many Genres in July as in June. The Genre king for last month was once again Fantasy as is pretty much always the case – I don’t think I’ve ever had a month where it wasn’t. The other five genres were Manga, Romance, Graphic NovelLGBT+ and Young Adult. (It bothers me that StoryGraph lumps in reading demographics with genres though – they’re not the same thing!! And these last five are definitely reading demographics.)

📄 FORMAT: This particular pie graph is once again wrong. (As usual.) About a third of the books I read were ebooks, while the rest were physical copies.

⭐ RATING: My median star rating for last month was 4.17. The ratings I gave were between 3.0 stars and 5.0 stars, so that pretty much tracks.

📉 PAGES READ DAILY: I read a ton during the second week of July, but that’s what happens we hen you read an entire arc of One Piece. It was my biggest reading spike of the month, as well. I also read some between the 17th and the 28th.

Wrapping Up the Wrap-Up

So yeah, even though I read six books last month, it still wasn’t quite as many as I’d have liked. I really enjoyed the books that I did end up reading, however, which was pretty nice. Hopefully I’ll read more in August, though.

I did end up having a bit of a minor slump during July, and I think it’s ’cause my husband was ready to continue buddy reading One Piece, and I wanted to read something else first. We ended up doing the buddy read of the next OP arc, and by the end of it I was kind of no longer into reading what was originally next on my TBR. Like, don’t get me wrong – I really enjoyed the Water Seven arc, it just all kinda messed up my reading moods for July. A little.

Anyway, thanks for joining me in checking out my StoryGraph stats for my July reading in 2024. Thank you also for reading, and I hope you have an wonderful day/night!

Reading & Recipes #4

It’s been a bit. But I love this post, so it’s definitely not going away! I love to read and I love to cook/bake, so Reading & Recipes is the culmination of two of my favorite things!

If you don’t know what Reading & Recipes is… Well, for this post, I’m going to be posting a recipe I used recently along with a picture of the finished product, as well as discussing a book I was reading the same day a little bit. Annnd that’s it, that’s pretty much the post.

Recent Recipe: Baked Salmon Fillet w/ Garlic Herb Butter & Bay Seasoning

This is another Mar original. It’s a bit of a pricier meal than we usually have, but we saw a giant salmon fillet at Sam’s this past weekend and I was like 👀 to my spouse. I prepared it last night and it turned out wonderful. Which is especially cool, because I’ve never made salmon before.

(Sidenote: I’m sorry the picture sucks – I didn’t think to take a picture of it before we cut it up and divided it, lol. ☺️)

INGREDIENTS:
  • one large salmon fillet (because this is what we got, but you can get smaller ones – you’ll just need to adjust the cook time probably)
  • some garlic butter (I just kind of winged it)
  • a little salt and pepper
  • Bay’s Seasoning
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, spray the foil with nonstick spray, and unwrap salmon and lay it on top.
  2. Lightly season the fillet with salt and pepper. Heat up garlic butter in microwave until completely melted and drizzle atop salmon. Then season salmon fillet with as much Bay’s seasoning as you’d like.
  3. After oven is heated up, place baking sheet with salmon inside and bake for 20 minutes. (Make sure it’s cooked – all ovens are different! If you have a food thermometer and you like to make sure your food is cooked perfectly, use it to make sure salmon is internally 175°F (~87°C).)
  4. Take salmon out of oven and enjoy! If it still has skin on it, be careful while eating not to eat the skin.

Soon Luffy and the Straw Hats are on the run… and it turns out they’re on the path to a city of gold!

I haven’t read it in a few months, but I’m still enjoying One Piece. My spouse and I have been buddy reading it, and we’re planning on finishing it. But, I dunno, I took a bit of a break after November,  but maybe I shouldn’t have. ‘Cause I’ve had quite the reading slump these past few months, and this might’ve gotten me out of it – as it’s a fun, easy read, with great world building, adventure and characters.

I will say that I haven’t enjoyed this super volume as much as the ones I’ve read so far. But that’s not that surprising, as I’ve noticed the beginnings of arcs have some slow parts, in order to establish and build up the rest of the current arc, as well as future plot stuff beyond it (sometimes waaayy beyond it).

But I’ve still been enjoying the rich world and hijinks, and I’m looking forward to the rest of this massive undertaking – One Piece currently has over 103 regular volumes of story published, and over 1100 chapters out. So it’s huge, is what I’m getting at. But I’ve been enjoying reading it between regular novels – between manga, books and fanfiction it all keeps reading very fresh.

So what books have you been reading lately? What have you thought of them? What’s your favorite food, meal or dessert?

Thank you as always for reading, and I hope you all have an awesome day/night!

See ya ~Mar
